About Me

Training

I completed my BA degree part-time through UNISA and studied my Honours in Psychology at UCT. I received my masters in Clinical Psychology from UKZN and completed my internship at the Fort Napier Psychiatric complex, also in Pietermaritzburg. My internship was completed in 2008 and included placement at various community clinics and Town Hill Psychiatric Hospital. In my year of community service, I managed the Northdale Hospital Psychology Clinic, also in Pietermaritzburg.

Experience

I have experience working with trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, stress, adjustment difficulties, relationship difficulties and personal growth. I have a strong interest in trauma and have previously worked at the Trauma Centre for Survivors of Violence and Torture in Woodstock, Cape Town.

Therapy Style

My approach is centered on providing a safe space for therapy. This requires an open, compassionate and non-judgmental attitude. I place great value in the ‘therapeutic alliance’, which means that therapy is an active collaboration between the therapist and client.

My approach is broadly psychodynamic. More Specifically, I have a strong interest in Psychoanalysis and Attachment Theory. I also work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness where appropriate.
